Chinese-Mandarin courses at OHCS include two different language curriculum: Chinese immersion level 1-7( for non-Mandarin-speaking students), and Ma li-ping Chinese 马立平( for Mandarin-speaking students).

 

Chinese immersion level 1-7

Immersion is the best way for children to absorb language skills at a very early age. Chinese-Mandarin course at OHCS are specially designed for children living in non-Mandarin speaking families. It features a spiral-up lesson structure that builds upon and applies previous material, so children can learn Chinese naturally–the way they would in a native environment. Each lesson introduces students to Chinese vocabulary and sentences in a daily living environment. Students can review what they learned in the classroom and play additional exercises by watching each lesson at home on the computer with the CD-ROM, making learning Chinese relevant and fun!

Age: 5 and up

Class Time: Level 1-4: Saturday 9:00am-10:00am.

Level 5: Saturday 10:00am-11:00am Level 6 and up: 11:00am-11:55am

Requirement:  No previous Mandarin experience needed for level 1.  Students will move up to the next level each year.

Material needed: one CD-ROM which consists of 36 story books and two exercise books. (Materials are available at school.)

Ma li-ping Chinese k-8  马立平中文
This Chinese-Mandarin course are carefully designed for Chinese heritage students who speak and understand Mandarin by Dr. Ma Li-Ping of Stanford.  The class instruction is given in all Mandarin. Approximately 320 Chinese characters will be taught through 30 lessons in each level. 

本套教材由毕业于斯坦福教育学院的马立平博士,通过在海外近十年亲自教学实验中,经过无数次修改逐步研发的。学制为一年三个学期,每学期十周。学生主要是来自中国大陆的新移民子女, 以教授简体字为主。

Requirement: Students can understand and speak fluent Mandarin. Daily homework and practice with the CD is necessary. A final quiz will be given at the end of each quarter.

Instructors:  There are total of 12 native Mandarin-speaking instructors teaching different levels of language class.
