夏令营 Summer Camp

OHCS Summer camps are designed to bring different age children together so that they can learn from each other and have fun together. Classes are taught by experienced educators who are native-speakers. Activities include storytelling, music, movement, arts & crafts, dramatic play, games, and more! The camp provides an open and friendly environment for students to improve Chinese-language skills through a variety of themes, and it allows campers to develop confidence in their language skills as they expand their knowledge and understanding of Chinese culture. Camp size is limited. Please register ASAP to secure a space.

2024 Summer camp Themes:

主题Theme 1: Chinese painting and calligraphy 国画&书法  Week 1&2: June 17 – June 28 

Chinese painting and calligraphy are one of the oldest continuous artistic traditions in the world. Campers will practice the basic brush painting technique to draw their favorite animals such as panda bear and dragon since 2024 is year of dragon.  They will also learn/practice the basic calligraphy technique to write Chinese characters.

主题Theme 2: Dinosaurs 恐龙  Week 3&4:  July 8 – July 19 

Almost all kids love dinosaurs, and there are so many fun ideas to play and learning about these mighty creatures that lived millions of years ago.  Campers will learn about the Tyrannosaurus rex, Velociraptor, Diplodocus, Triceratops, Apatosaurus, Iguanodon, Stegosaurus, and all kinds of interesting dinosaurs through activities such as sandbox dinosaur excavation, reading dinosaur books, watch awesome videos, enjoy cool fossil projects and more!

主题Theme 3: Chinese legend-Mulan花木兰  Week 5&6: July 22- Aug.2

Mulan is a legendary folk heroine of Chinese history.  She took her aged father’s place in the conscription for the army by disguising herself as a man.  After Mulan is honored by the emperor but declines a position of high office, she retires to her hometown, where she is reunited with her family and, much to the astonishment of her comrades, reveals herself as a woman. Campers will be engaged with fun activities such as song, Wushu, rhymes, art crafts, and acting as they learn Mulan story.

主题Theme 4: Travelers in China 中国城市和名胜古迹  Week 7&8: Aug.5 -Aug.16

This session is focused on Chinese geography and historic scenes.  Children will learn cities in China and visit some big cities such as Beijing, Shang hai, Xian, Taibei, through books, pictures, and videos.  Children will draw a map of china as they travel to each city, and describe each city through artwork, discussion, recite “Poem of Chinese Cities”, sing famous melodies from different reign in China 

主题Theme 5: Nature explorer 探索大自然 Week 9&10:  Aug.19 –Aug.30

Children and nature go together!  Outdoor activities offer countless benefits for children’s overall wellbeing from body, mind, to sprit.  Campers will explore in the park next door observing plants, flowers, bugs, birds and other wild creatures, hunting for rocks, digging in the dirt, and collecting nature material to make art crafts.

Ages:3 -12 yr: campers need to wear sunscreen, bring a water bottle, a sack lunch; a morning and an afternoon snack every day.

Camp Options: Half-day (1:00pm-3:00pm) language learning session is available for advanced students in the afternoons.

Early drop-off: 8:00am-8:30am (Free)
Full day camp: (8:30 am— 3:00 pm) $280/week,
Half day camp: (8:30am—12:30pm) $230/week,
After-camp care: 3:00pm-5:30pm ($100/week)

half day camp: $220/week, full day camp: $250/week, after-school care: $80/week.
